В общем, наш любимый Спенглер, надежда моншеведения, щас выступает на каком-то семинаре, а другой чувак кратко транслирует, не его конкретно, а вообще кто о чем.

From Blois to Saint-Cloud: French Royal Second Sons, Princely Residences and Consumption Habits
@JSpanUK - a younger brother of the king needed to define a space for himself - where he could be master and 'perform' the role of the prince in the shadow of his older brother.
Second sons of Monarchs needed to find a way to use their limited power. How did they resolve this issue? How did they keep their space in royal hierarchy - they created princely spaces for themselves away from usual centres of royal power.
16thC French sovereign's 2nd sons turn to being 'country gentlemen' - well away from Paris, the seat of power - followed the arts/collected antiquaries & curiosities displaced in large buildings - as a display of their 'power'.
@JSpanUK - Louis XIV & brother Phillippe of #Orleans had problem of princely power but Phillppe knew his place - took over Saint-Cloud - he collected an impressive art collection & space to rival Versailles & became an astute business man.
The example of Phillippe shows that this 'conspicuous' consumption can lead to independence - Phillippe no longer dependent on the King for his living thanks to his entrepreneurship.
Ору просто.
А ктооо был его финансовым советником, а?
