@JSpanUK - Louis XIV & brother Phillippe of #Orleans had problem of princely power but Phillppe knew his place - took over Saint-Cloud - he collected an impressive art collection & space to rival Versailles & became an astute business man.

The example of Phillippe shows that this 'conspicuous' consumption can lead to independence - Phillippe no longer dependent on the King for his living thanks to his entrepreneurship.
